TECH: ScanGauge II

Previously I talked about getting a multi-display gauge to help monitor the health of the car and motor. One awesome little tech that I found was the ScanGauge!

So simple yet effective! It simply plugs into your car's On board Diagnostics 2 (OBDII) port (if your car has one) and reads the factory computer's data and converts it to useful information!

The gauge can display up to four different data streams depending on what your computer utilises:
  • Water temp
  • Intake air temp
  • Loop Status (closed/open) (super useful for piggyback tuning btw)
  • Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) (engine speed)
  • Speed (car)
  • Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
  • Voltage (battery)
  • Fuel Pressure
  • Ignition Timing
  • Engine Load
It even calculates how much fuel you are using showing data such as:
  • Distance per Fuel Capacity
  • Fuel Consumption per Hour
  • Average Fuel Economy
Another cool feature is that it's programmable! They have this feature called XGauge that by plugging in codes to pull non-standard sensor readings as well as perform further mathematics on  sensor data, you can add additional gauges including:
  • Horsepower
  • O2 Sensor Readings
  • Fuel Trim Data (short and long)
  • Air/Fuel Ratio
  • Fuel Level
  • Ambient Air Temps
The additional XGauge features are limited to what data your factory computer processes, so check out their website and even online forums to see what's available!

To sweeten the deal even further, the ScanGauge can also view and clear CELs!! This is one very useful feature, especially when tinkering away from the standard spec of the car! When you view CELs it shows the trouble code (which you can Google and find out what it means) as well as the Freeze Frame Data. This data captures vital info on the car at the time of the trouble code including speed, rev, temps, trim and even loop status. Very handy!

Linear Logic now has come out with the ScanGaugeE which is a smaller version of the ScanGaugeII but it shows real-time fuel economy feedback graphs!

Its smaller so it can only display a maximum of two data streams (along with the graph) and doesn't feature the expansions of XGauge but still has plenty of the standard features of the ScanGaugeII.

Not as flashy as the Apexi RSM or even the Ark Design Multi Function Dash, but for the price.. It's hard to beat!
